Just what the world needs - another music blog . . .
The Curve Ball began life in 2006 as a radio show for people like me, who still craved adventurous and imaginative new music but had no stomach for the kind of dirge, cacophony or soul-searing introspection that so often entails. Music that shuns the well-trodden path without jumping off a cliff, performed by musicians who have no regard for marketing categories but who don't mistake sticking it to the man for a career path. Is this too much to ask? Apparently it is, and this blog aims to ponder why, point fingers, name guilty parties, and just occasionally celebrate the odd pocket of resistance . . .
These past few years I've been the principal sleevenote writer for Mike Alway's extraordinary el label (http://www.cherryred.co.uk/el/) as well as presenting a two-hour radio show every Tuesday at 9-11pm on 101.8 WCR-FM (www.wcrfm.com). In the past I've worked in regional newspapers as feature writer, TV critic and sub-editor, and also written freelance articles for Record Collector and Mojo.
